Changes to the term for the migration registration

Because of the upcoming FIFA World Cup the term for migration registration has been changed to just one day after the arrival. This change is applicable to all non-Russian citizens between the 25th of May and the 25th of July.

IKBFU researchers create new composite materials

The researchers of the IKBFU Laboratory of New Magnetic Materials,  together with the Department of Magnetism of the Physics Department of the M. Lomonosov Moscow State University developed and studied  a new composite material based on ferroelectric and ferromagnetic particles in a polymer matrix.

International stem cell symposium held at IKBFU

On April 20, the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University hosted the Current Stem Cell Therapy and Technology international symposium. The event was timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the discovery of stem cells by the German Professor Franz Ernst Christian Neumann who lived and worked in Königsberg, today Kaliningrad. He was the first to suggest that the bone marrow was the site of new blood cell production. Neumann’s hypothesis described in 1868 largely corresponded to the findings of the Russian researcher Aleksandr Maksimov, which were published in 1909.

IKBFU’s pipe modelling software obtains national registration

A research team from the IKBFU developed two pipe modelling pieces of software within a federal research and technology excellence programme. This software is designed to calculate the stress-strain state of metal for manufacturing curled skelps for LSAW pipes and to compute strain regime and calibrating passes for producing LSAW pipes.

IKBFU’s researcher makes presentation at European Geosciences Union General Assembly

Dr Pavel Maslennikov, an Associate Professor in the IKBFU’s Institute of Living Systems presented his findings at the largest geosciences conference – the European Geosciences Union General Assembly (EGU 2018). The conference was held in Vienna (Austria). The Assembly showcased disciplinary and interdisciplinary oral, poster, and PICO presentations covering the whole range of geosciences.

Social Science as Social Semiotics: Bridging Theories, Methods and Practices

2018 is a year to celebrate two important milestones in the history of social semiotics – publication of landmark books in 1978 and 1988. Forty years ago, Michael Halliday issued Language as a Social Semiotic. Ten years after, Robert Hodge and Gunther Kress published Social Semiotics. To mark these two important anniversaries the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University holds the conference Social Science as Social Semiotics as a part of wider research and education program Baltic Modes of Social Semiotics.

IKBFU Neural Device is on the shortlist of "10 Inventions that Will Change the World"

RIA Novosti news agency and the 5-100 programme have been running a popular science infographics project  "10 inventions that will change the world".
The project presents unique developments of Russian researchers in the following nominations - Energy Sources, Security, Medicine and Health, and Optics.
IKBFU neural device "Balalaika" (the project manager - Natalia Shusharina) has been shortlisted.
