17 April 2018The Foundation for Basic Research announced the results of its 2018 research project contest for early career scientists. Among the winners of My First Grant contest are doctoral students from the IKBFU’s Department of Ocean Geography.
Ekaterina Bubnova, a third-year doctoral student of Earth sciences, is launching a project titled ‘Quantitative Assessment of Suspended Sediment Flows along the Northern Coast of the Kaliningrad region’. The project will rely on backscatter data obtained using Doppler velocimetry. Until now, sediment flows have been studied in areas closer to the sea, using other methods, and larger fractions have been examined. Olesya Navazova, a second-year master’s degree student of coastal oceanography, will carry out the project.
The rapid development of regional resorts and the construction of a new port and a gas terminal lend an urgency to the project.
Two other contest winners – second- and third-year doctoral students of Earth sciences, Liliya Khamtullina and Irina Efimova – will study the deposition of marine microplastic particles.
