26 October 2017The IKBFU’s master degree students Aleksandr Barannikov and Maria Voevodina took part in the 14th School: Synchrotron Radiation: Fundamentals, Methods, and Applications. The event was held by the Italian Synchrotron Radiation Society (SILS) in collaboration with ELETTRA-Synchrotron Trieste.
Leaders in synchrotron radiation research delivered lectures and master classes on the generation and properties of synchrotron radiation, free electron lasers, and matter-radiation interactions. The school participants got the lowdown on X-ray techniques – absorption and resonance spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry and microscopy, and small-angle scattering. At the poster session, early career researchers presented their findings.
‘The lectures were fascinating. I learned new skills that will come handy in my research. One of the highlights was taking part in actual experiments at the ELETTRA synchrotron beamline.’
