Geography «Coastal Oceanography»
The programme provides an advanced understanding of the natural environment of coastal marine zone, as well as cross-border cooperation in oceanography. Special attention is paid to the development of professional competences and skills of expert analysis of coastal zones.
The goal of the programme is to train highly qualified competitive specialists in coastal oceanography.

The Coastal Oceanography MA Programme is carried out jointly with the Atlantic branch of the P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to:
work at research and design organisations committed to solving problems of the ocean;
do expert analysis of coastal marine zones;
teach geography in schools, colleges and universities.

Computer technology and data processing, methods of marine hydro-physical research, methods of marine geophysical research, satellite methods of regional oceanographic research, physical oceanography of coastal waters, marine biotechnology, marine biogeochemistry, coastal ecosystems and their protection, dynamics and mixing processes in the coastal zone, hydrophysical processes in the coastal zone of the ocean, quaternary geology of the Baltic region, the geology and mineral resources of the Baltic region, lithodynamics of coastal zone and methods coastal protection, geomorphology of sea coasts, regional integrated management problems of coastal zones, environmental monitoring of the marine environment, oceanographic data achives on the Internet, hydrobiology of coastal waters.

Atlantic Branch of the P.Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, the Russian Academy of Sciences , JSC Baltic Aerogeodetic Enterprise, the Curonian Spit National Park, the IKBFU laboratory of the Institute of Environmental Management, Urban Development and Spatial Planning, the Centre for Regional Studies, and the Centre for Territorial Development and Urban Planning.
Professional Training / Internships
Graduates can apply for various positions in governing bodies, municipal authorities, educational institutions of higher, secondary and vocational education, environmental protection departments of industrial enterprises and organizations.
Admission & Tuition
To enter a Master's programme applicants are required to take the following exams:
Written exam (or a test) in the chosen field of study (100 points maximum)
Foreign language (a pass or fail test)
