Ecology and Nature Management «Geoecology»

Programme Information

The programme aims at a comprehensive study of the theoretical foundations of general ecology, geoecology, human ecology, social ecology, environmental protection, and applied ecology. The knowledge gained will help students   orient in a variety of environmental technologies, modern methods of environmental protection, as well as fundamentals of the study of atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere.

The goal of the programme is to train highly qualified competitive specialists in ecology and nature management.

Advantages of the programme:

In order to provide practice-oriented training in Ecology and Nature Management, the Immanuel Kant Baltic University has founded a Resource Centre for Training Specialists in Ecology and Nature Management. The Centre is an asset to the programme.

Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to:

  • participate in field studies and research expeditions;

  • collect and process data for environmental impact assessment;

  • assess different types of impact on the environment;

  • elaborate strategies and programmes of regional development, taking into account the existing natural resource potential;

  • carry out environmental impact assessment of socio-economic and economic activities;

  • teach geography in schools, colleges and universities.

geoecology, natural resource management, methods of research in geoecology and information processing, IT in ecology and nature management, anthropogenic systems and environmental risk assessment, environmental pollution and mitigation of its consequences, human ecology and social ecology, environmental economics, environmental monitoring, environmental management and protection of the environment, environmental impact assessment, environmental management and auditing, theoretical foundations of metrology, fundamentals of chemical analysis, foundations of chemical and environmental impact assessment, applied biogeochemistry, environmental geochemistry, industrial ecology, industrial pollution control and environmental audit, introduction to industrial environmental monitoring, protected areas of the Kaliningrad region, foundations of nature conservation, applied geoecological mapping, introduction to geoecological mapping, introduction to GIS mapping, urban ecology and ecology of urban environment, ecological and recreational monitoring, recreational environment, the protection of water resources, hydroecology, rational use and improvement of land quality and the ecology of land, geo-ecological monitoring of the coastal zones, marine geoecology, environmental documentation, environmental safety of economic activity, pollution bioindicators, comprehensive management of coastal zone.

Atlantic Branch of the P.Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, the Russian Academy of Sciences, JSC Baltic Aerogeodetic Enterprise, the Curonian Spit National Park, the IKBFU laboratory of the Institute of Environmental Management, Urban Development and Spatial Planning.

Graduates can apply for various positions in administration and management, municipal authorities, higher, secondary and vocational education institutions, departments of environmental protection, industrial enterprises and organizations.
